In 1898, Abraham Kuyper, Calvinist theologian, politician, and journalist, delivered six lectures at Princeton University on the topic of Calvinism. Lecture 3, “Calvinism and Politics,” expounds his “sphere theory” of jurisdiction as it relates to the State and to other social institutions, such as the church and family.
